New reg plate purchase

Stupidly I have bought a reg plate that is newer than my car has anybody else been this stupid. I have spoke to the reg company and they just me to pay them to sell it for me and this could take maybe never and that’s £600 down the drain. I ordered on my phone so could see the smaller saying this information and terms and conditions, who ever reads these! Has anybody done anything this stupid and what can I do? The company have not responded to my last email.

How can it be 600 pounds down the drain? Is that the amount you paid for it or the loss you expect if you was to re-sell it?
You can keep it on retention until you are ready to buy a car that is the same age as the plate or newer.
You never know, you may even make money out of it by selling it for a profit as you have paid at least 600 pounds, someone else may want it.

Just a polite heads up. A retention cert is indeed valid for 10 years as you have stated but to be very clear it can most certainly be renewed.

DVLA allows to return plate in 14 days, maybe this company allows the same. Read their T&C, people actually do read them. If not, keep it on retention.

To be clear it's 10 dates from the point of purchase from the DVLA. However, the OP did not buy from the DVLA website, I can tell by what they have said.

Well, if it's 10 working days (as I believe the DVLA is) then in reality that equates to 14 days.

Also the poster knows it wasn't bought from the DVLA, hence the sentence "maybe this company allows the same".
