Barclays - Bloody useless

Grant of probate was uploaded over a month ago,  house deeds had been retrieved from deep storage 3 weeks ago,  we are still waiting for the bank account funds that we were told should only take 3 working days to transfer (last Wednesday, for the 3rd time) and no sign of the deeds being sent out,  the rigmarole to get through the automated  phone system of mortgage services is infuriating!
I’ve never received any reply to emails and I must have spent 10+ hours on hold with their god-awful muzak rotting my brain.
Covid is the ideal cover for incompetence.

Time for a formal complaint. Their website will have details.
  • If the is registered with the land registry then you don’t actually need the original deeds to proceed with any sales.

Are you actually talking the the bereavement department?

Is your late father's property still unregistered?

    I
t does seem very strange that there is a delay in the transfer of cash from your late father's accounts to the exor(?) account.

Relative had to deal with probate last year - the deceased held accounts with Barclays  (where the exor account was also opened) and there were no problems in transferring from one to the other - nor were there any problems when he used Barclays in connection with the Direct Payment for IHT.
  • The house is unregistered ( currently up for sale) .
Still no sign of the funds,  I was absolutely ‘promised’  last week that they would reach my (nat west)  account within 72 hours,  so I assumed a BACS payment.
The only thing Barclays did do in a timely fashion was pay the funeral director.
I will be making a complaint.
I want to instruct a conveyancer but want the deeds in my hands before I do so.
  • It’s both the Bereavement dept ( for the transfer)  and Mortgage services ( for the deeds)  I’ve had to deal with.

Have Mortgage Services confirmed how (insured special delivery?) and when the Deeds will be sent?
  • I requested them to be sent to our local branch for collection.
They said they couldn’t give me a timeframe 🙄

This does not seem reasonable. Why can't they give you a timeframe?

Mind you, even if they had, judging by your comments above, could you have relied on what you were told?

As you say, time for the letter written on cardboard.... :)

I know this is if no solace to you but Barclays transferred just under £50k from my father's account to me within 5 days of his death. It CAN be done...shame there's no consistency.
