Hello
Can anyone help??
I bought a TV from argos on 1st of May, using my visa debit. I haven't opened this TV until today (14/9/20) as i bought this TV for a house move and today was the moving day, I came to set it up and the TV had a smash on it. (The tv has been stored in my spare bedroom and transported safely by myself so i know this hasn't been done by myself). Argos say because i haven't opened the TV within 30days they cannot do anything about it. I spent £380 on this TV and i don't know what else i can do 😔
Thanks in advance, Lauren.

Realistically you should have opened the box to check it as soon as was reasonably possible. You would have spotted the damage then. The damage could have occurred anywhere from when it was shipped to Argos to when you got it through the front door in May, and how is anybody supposed to know otherwise if you leave it for four months before opening the box?Think you might be out of luck unfortunately.1

Household insurance or put it down to experience , although why didn't you check on receipt ?

This is definitely a learning curve and an expensive lesson at that!😂. I just never expected anything to be wrong with it, kicking myself really for not checking it but like i say, lessons learnt 😩 i didn't open it because it was for a new house, covid delays involved which is why it took 4months etc. I looked into the consumer rights and it said something along the lines of within 6months the company has to prove it wasn't broke when delivered etc so i didn't know if anyone knew more about this 😣

The TV would still work if the screen was smashed, it just wouldn't be watchable. Still doesn't excuse you from opening the item to check it when you bought it though, that's just basic common sense. The six month thing is if the product develops a fault. Well in this case it was faulty when you bought it. But you didn't notice. For four months, because you didn't open the box, Covid or no Covid. The passage of time naturally decrees that nobody can prove where it was smashed after all that time, it could have been smashed anywhere between the factory and your front door.lozlizlow said:This is definitely a learning curve and an expensive lesson at that!😂. When you say it had a smash on it, where was it damaged? Was it the screen or just the outside case? If the case is just damaged, it could still work, or have only a small fault that could inexpensively be repaired. If all else fails try to sell it for "spares or repairs" on Ebay.0
