Council error in ctax reduction need advice - help
Hey
I / we get ctax reduction at home and local authority is auditing i guess everyone and asking for updated savings etc.
I have sent all of them in and it turns out of one of my accounts which i provided numerous time last year is not on their system on the claim and they are asking me questions like why wasnt this saving account previously declared etc when i clearly did in person and i guess one of the front line support workers didnt record this on their system properly-
What can i do? im kind of worried and dont really want to get into trouble as its not my fault they cant do their job properly, or am i over thinking? its all to do with council tax overpayment or underpayment etc. It now looks like there will be a underpayment of ctax ?
How do i approach this dilemma?

How much was in the account, basically how much difference is it going to make?
Each council is different but ours sends our ‘benefit award notices’ which show what income and capital we are using for the award. If yours came out without that noted then you are expected to spot that.
do you have proof of declaring the account?0 -

When you went into your local councils offices to inform them did they give you a receipt for what you give them? They would usually do this as proof.

£3k is in the account, I did have the receipt but discarded it, as I claimed 18 months ago so thought i didnt need it anymoreKatrinaWaves said:How much was in the account, basically how much difference is it going to make?

Sadly you’ve binned your proof of declaring the account.Unless the 3k takes you over a threshold your council has set it shouldn’t end up in a particularly massive overpayment for 3k for 18 month.0

Ah right ok im not really sure what to do, i can either provide the full account statements which more than happy to do so or not respond and it will automatically calculate overpayment0

Id just provide them. Then send in all your bank statements from when you first started claiming it.
