O/S Daily Monday 14 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit, enjoying his liie-in and his annual leave. DS2 settled and happy.
Now getting light, dry underfoot and air is cool, but has started the last 2 days like this to then turn into glorious sunny and warm - forecast is the same for today.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, swede, green beans, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - very nice it was too. Dinner tonight will be LO roast - I need to get the lasagne made tonight so all I need to do is put it in the oven to cook tomorrow night as the hairdresser is coming and I want a quick meal that I can put in the oven to cook whilst she is here.
Back to work today - hopefully it'll be steady - each Monday has been busier as now the children have returned to school parents seem to be getting in touch/trying to visit the offices.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope it's not too busy for you.
I've had a busy weekend, DS1 and the DGC came on Saturday and stayed over, it was little Sophie's 1st birthday yesterday so we went for a socially distanced celebration at theirs. It got quite busy, thank goodness the weather held and we could stay outside. I was exhausted playing hide and seek with DGS, it's only a small garden so squeezing behind the shed was quite a challenge!
DD's partner heard on Thursday he was to be made redundant on Friday, just 24 hours notice. No notice about returning the car, someone turned up around 4pm on Friday and had to wait whilst they emptied it out. Anyway, by 1pm on Friday he had secured another job and starts on 1st October. He had a feeling this would happen and had already made enquiries, I'm so pleased for them and very proud that he had the foresight to start looking.
I'm hoping for a quieter week at work but doubt that will happen! The swimming pools are open again but I'm not sure how getting changed will work yet so will wait to see as I can't leave the pool without getting ready for work.
Hope you've all had a good weekend and have a good week ahead, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A lovely start here and forecast to reach 25 deg. Wow! Is the spa dusted off NELS?!
A morning of pottering on with this and that and maybe an hour sitting in the sunshine with my book this afternoon. It's Sparkle's vet appointment at last at 4.50. Poor puss cat, the week waiting for the appointment hasn't helped the spread of the allergy. DS calling after work to ferry us there. I'm not sure what the procedure is now, I need to ring and check. If it's still a handover of the pet at the door I need to attach a note saying what the problem is. Even though he will be able to see for himself.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe xx

Good morning, seems fine and dry out there.Camelot, your Dd's partener sounds as if he's a sensible lad, good for him for being on the ball about his work! Not a lot happeneing here, we've been tidying outside while it's fine, I see the leaves are starting to fall.I made some green tomato chutney, so that's in the bottom of the landing cupboard maturing - I've never made chutney before so I hope it turns out well. DH's brother makes lovely jams and chutneys, but he's done it for years.I'm visiting my elderly friend this morning - she is in good spirits but can no longer go out alone, which is sad. Her daughter takes her out 2 or 3 times a week though, so that's something.Nothing else to report really, Dgd will come after school for tea, like she used to, and that's about it.Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks..13

Good morning everyone
I had a busy day yesterday with lots of visitors although that won't happen now for the foreseeable future. Lilly and her boyfriend came here first and I gave him his raccoon I had knitted. It was supposed to be for Christmas but he saw it on the sideboard and his face just lit up. I don't mind, I still have to knit him an orangutan backpack in his favourite purple colour.
Jemima and the children came to see me as well, it was great to see them again but Jemima looked very tired. They are all supposed to be flying to Crete for a holiday at the end of the month but I wish they wouldn't go. The situation with her husband is still very complicated and it's taking it's toll on her.
I'm going to make a sausage pie with leeky mash topping. I'll get it made in a minute and stick it in the fridge till dinner time. I fancy carrots and cabbage with it too. We had steak pie yesterday from Pukka pies and it was delicious and so full of filling. It made a nice change from having a roast.
The dogs are moulting all over the carpet in the living room so that will be a priority to get cleaned today. Apart from that, we will need to sort out some more washing and put it away. I want to look through my wardrobe as well and find some brighter clothes to wear as I am so sick of wearing black. Even my nighties are black and I want to wear red or teal. I'm sure I have some nice clothes, I just always live in nighties as I get so hot. Anyway, it will be a good opportunity to see what I actually have got.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Lots of end of season surprise guests and our resident DJ nanny on the decks and the ruby family on the bbq
Washing done and dusted and DW emptied amazing what a bit of sun does to the energy levels. Food is easy today leftover roast from yesterday although a salad may have been a better choice.
Got a tutorial on Teams today not sure what was wrong with zoom but seems that's out of favour now and Teams is in. need to try and rearrange hospital appt booked for tomorrow (they sent the letter at the weekend) Sods law it clashes with my gym visit and as its at another hospital 20 miles away there would be no way of getting there at this short notice. Other than all that its spa for me and a final boost for the vit D
TA hope the vet can help poor sparkle
camelot well done to your daughters partner
scarlett bet your chutney will be lovely I usually make loads of different ones at this time of year but having to have a year off whilst I crack through the masses of stock from last year
Have a good day all the sun will shine so life is better

Good morning all, and hope everyone gets some of the good weather in the forecast.
I was at work yesterday all day but have today and tomorrow off, and the temperature is supposed to get up to about 23 degrees. Cue I think for lunch outside in the garden today. I have my online choir starting again today, via Zoom, so am looking forward to it. We will be doing some fabulous songs this term, starting with God Only Knows by the Beach Boys, beautiful harmonies in that.
My son got up early to take the dog for a short walk, then retired back to bed. I will still take her out again this morning, she's a Border Collie and loves going out. I might even pick some more elderberries while I 'm at it.
Have a pleasant day everybody.One life - your life - live it!11 -

Morning all.
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Camelot, So glad you survived the party. My DGD's 8th birthday is next Sunday, but the proposed party and sleepover has had to be cancelled. She is not pleased. The years fly past so quickly, it seems no time at all that she was celebrating her first birthday, like Sophie.
TA, I hope there is some quick relief for Sparkle. It's heart breaking to think how she must suffer.
ScarletRibbons, Hope the chutney lives up to expectations, let us know won't you?
Dumpling, good luck with the clothes sort out. I have clothes (not many) that are kept fir special occasions, clothes that I'm going to be slim enough to get into some day, clothes that are too big but that I keep against the dreaded, but all too likely, day that I put weight back on and a tiny, tiny proportion of clothes that I actually wear.
Nelski, and what exactly have the Ruby family done to deserve being barbecued. The mind it doth boggle. Anyway, enjoy the Spa, with or without barbecued Rubies.
I have nothing planned today except a a quick sashay through the bungalow with a duster in one hand and the vacuum in the other, kicking things under beds and behind cupboards as I go. Housework!
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I walk around like everything is fine, but deep down in my shoe my sock is sliding off.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Morning lovelies, beautiful sunshine here and my washing is out in it.
I'm feeling a bit jaded today for no discernible reason, Monna my sock has come off. Still, the bees are buzzing and bumbling in the buddleia, I have seen a toddler bluetit, it was tiny, and on Saturday saw a bat. So not everything is doom and gloom.
I shall go and find useful things to do. Then may I visit the spa please Nelski? That would be an up cheering activity, I need one of those today. I know, I'll mow the lawn and then I'll feel that I've achieved something.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all
Its a beautiful day here and meant to rise to 26 deg lovely !! I shall be at the spa later and I suspect I would be a tough old bird if you bbq'd me but you are welcome to have a goit would only be me though as dd and OH are both back to work.
It feels really funny being home alone I have not been alone much since mid March and now its just me and the dogs, I actually really enjoy time alone so I will be fine later but its a bit strange for the time being. I will be able to get back to some kind of routine though which will be good for me I have been slipping into lethargy bordering on laziness and it needs to stop !!
Today I am going to give the lounge a good tidy through pull the sofas out etc and then do a room a day to start with, the boot cupboard also needs a good sort out as its got in a mess again.
I hope Marie is ok and recovering now xx
Camelot well done to your SIL that was a quick turn around x
Have good days all xx
