Moth found in food - complaints ignored
Comments

As stated I've been complaining for that length of time - I've spoken to three different people in my thread and they say to wait while they get back to me but never do. Glad you've had better luck than me! Have already used that link you sent me which is the phone number I mentioned (no email address). Twitter has their team on 9-5 and seems to be their main avenue customer service (like so many customers these days).MalMonroe said:The link here tells you how to complain and what to do if you want to take matters further.

I have to say that my family and I have been Sainsbury's customers for years and if we ever have a complaint (no insects in food though) we usually have an immediate response and a refund.
Go to local press if you must but you have to have proof positive that the moth was actually IN the jar of paste in the first place. Seems like you didn't spot it until you were actually cooking it - and you do know that a cicada is a totally different thing to a moth? Both in appearance and living conditions.
Did you buy the paste three months ago, or cook it three months ago or both? Why has it taken so long to complain? All Sainsbury's info is readily available online, you don't have to focus on Twitter. Their Twitter account isn't for serious complaints.0 -
Haha yes, shame if it had to come to that!bradders1983 said:Go to your local paper and pose for a photo with the jar, put on your best compo face.0 -
Please tell us if it happens so I can send it into the Angry People In Local Newspapers FB page.dilby said:

You still haven’t said what outcome it is you’re looking for. If it’s concern about food hygiene then bypass Sainsbury and go straight to environmental health.Won’t get you compo but you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s been investigated. If that’s what you really want....All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5 -
Sounds like they were just going for the authentic "cooked in tiny Indian village" theme. You normally pay more for that.

What you should have done is put the moth in a plastic bag and taken that and the jar to the store. The store should then send it to their company food safety department for an investigation. If you don't think its good enough then you contact your local environmental health department.
Twitter is a social media network, not a formal food hygiene complaint route.3 -
Both sound pretty sad options!bradders1983 said:

Thanks that's great, thats what i was after. Shame I had to put up with so much abuse to get there, but I guess that's using forums these days and some people have to get their kicks somehow. Thanks to all who were helpful.elsien said:You still haven’t said what outcome it is you’re looking for. Elsien's suggestion is all well and good but we are months down the line....do you still have the offending jar and/or insect?dilby said:

How do you know the moth was originally in the jar, and didn't fall into the pan while you were cooking?
