We have a British Gas SMETS 1 smart meter installed. It became dumb when a previous owner changed supplier. If we return to British Gas will the meter recover it's senses and become smart again?

It may need an engineer visit to replace the sim card, there have been several reports to that effect.

  • When I moved to this house it had an SP smart meter. Incumbent supplier was SP. I switched to So Energy, then to Bulb, then back to SP. SP’s smart meter was recognised and working fine.

have a British Gas SMETS 1 smart meter and when I left SG  to go to Bulb it went dumb, then I went to Eon and it still remained dumb then I went back to SG and a few weeks later when I was reading the meter I noticed the lan led was flashing green instead of orange so I plugged in the IHD and it now displays its info once again.

It might or it might not. It depends what has been going on in the meantime and whether the BG system recognises that your meter has reappeared onto their system or whether BG has decided to enrol it onto the DCC
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Would that be the Devonshire County Council? Thanks anyway for your input.
