Might be Made redundant, having to claim UC as a couple

I might be made redundant, it's effected my mental health and caused depression
As a couple we will be claiming UC, my partner currently earns £25000 a year, will i be required to look for a job, or will my partner be required to get more hours,
My plan is to eventually look for work, but would like to get myself in to a better position mentally
Thanks in advance for any advice

If your health limits your ability to work you should get a Fit Note from your GP and declare a health condition when claiming UC.
If your partner earns £25,000 you will not be required to look for work. Whether or not you will be entitled to any UC depends on your circumstances. Use a benefit calculator https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators to assess entitlement.
If you were working between April 2017 and April 2019 you may be able to claim New style JSA or New style ESA which are not means tested. Any JSA or ESA is deducted from UC.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
Hi thanks for the reply, we have a 12 year old, doing the calculator we are entitled,
Do they use the 25000 for AET and CET purposes, or after tax amount
Also could I just say I'm suffering from anxiety and depression, I've been on medication for years, but with current situation it's got worse, I don't really want to have a medical for Esa if not needed
Thank you again

For UC purposes it's monthly net income that you receive during your monthly assessment period that counts, not annual income. Do you rent or own your own home?If you have a disability that limits your capability for work then it's definitely worth sending in fit notes to start the work capability assessment off. If you're awarded LCWRA then you'll receive an extra £341 per month from the 4th month of your claim.0

Even though claiming New style ESA won't make you financially better off, it would make sense to claim the New style ESA as well because it's not means tested. UC is means tested so if anytime in the future a change of circumstances may mean that you're no longer entitled to any UC. If you're placed into the Support Group for ESA then this will continue to be paid for as long as you remain in that group.UC also pays class 3 NI credits, where as NS/ESA pays class 1.1
