I've been thrilled with Halifax turnaround times. We had a speculative chat with a Mortgage Broker at the end of August because we've wanted to buy for some time, but didn't think we were actually in a position to. In only two months we've gone through Halifax DIP, offer, Help to Buy, exchanged contracts and are completing today! Not all Halifax though, having a very good broker and Solicitor has also kept the timeline right down.0

Can I ask if it is a different process applying direct rather than via a broker ? We were declined via a broker in September ( we have 5, 5 year old coming up to 6 defaults) but I have heard they may accept if we apply direct ?0

I wouldn’t know as we applied with a broker, not direct I’m afraid.0

I’m a first time buyer, purchasing by myself and started the process with Halifax in February initially. Then covid hit in March and I was furloughed until June - I work for a large Travel agents in the finance admin sector, so not ideal at the minute. Halifax advised they could not proceed with my mortgage as they would not take furlough into account when looking at affordability and to reapply when I have 3 months payslips showing full time pay. In October I found another house I liked and started the process again then lockdown 2 happened and I am back on furlough until 2/12/20/0 when I will be back full time so Halifax have pulled the mortgage offer again. I am now just thinking of waiting until next summer and seeing how the ground lies. The whole thing has wore me out, but Halifax have been brilliant in any case.0
