Browntoa re your post No 7 giving advice how do you run Windows 98 in safe mode please.
In W98 you shouldn't have to run any scans in safe mode. Doing a scan in safe mode is needed more in XP because some nasties sit in system restore and reinstall themselves after the scan. W98 doesn't have system restore so you should be able to scan it normally.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Reboot your Win98 machine and hold down F8 while it is booting (in the top row of buttons) when it eventually gives you options, use the arrow buttons to choose "Safe Mode". Then do what you need to do and reboot and it will start again normally.
Edit. Rex is absolutely right, but I'll leave my post incase there's anything else you need to do in safe mode.0
