Hi guys,
My nan is currently in a retirement property (part of a complex), she owns the property she lives in but has been told she cannot change electricity provider, pretty certain this is illegal?
Anyone able to shed light on this?

Who told her that? Does the property has its own meter and who is the current electricity supplier?0

There are some odd rules and conditions attached to some of these retirement complexes where the 'suites' are sold but with limitations and I wouldn't be surprised to find that includes buying electricity through the management company.Check the rules, that should explain what she has agreed to in her purchase there...0

Does she get bills in her name direct from the energy supplier?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Estate agents and management agents often spout rubbish - I think it makes them feel powerful and important. Just switch away and enjoy cheaper energy. Is she all electric? E7 or not?0

Then the best thing you can do fo your Nan is to find abill of about 12 months ago where the readings are Actual (A) rather than Estimated (E) and read the meters ASAP so you can work out an annual consumption. Then go to a comparison site like Citizens Advice or Which - get the best deal you can (ignore what is quoted as savings - compare the bottom line with what she's paid. Your Nan will probably thank you with a tenner.themorganator4 said:

Did the retirement complex get a bung from Spark for signing her up to a mega-expensive tariff? No wonder they don't want her to switch !0
