KLM flight to NYC, what should I do?

Looking for advice please to avoid being stuck with a useless travel voucher or even worse no refund/ voucher!
In January, we booked flights with KLM to New York in the October half term for a family visit, our kids' first trip to the US. After COVID disruption, KLM's refund policy allowed anyone who had booked before April and was flying up until the end of August to get a refund. Their website states that anyone travelling after August can only rebook (which I don't want to do, and even if I did flight prices have hugely increased anyway).
I called them last week to explore the option of a refund, and was told that since the flight hasn't been cancelled so there's nothing they can/ will do.
The government travel advice regarding USA is currently essential travel only and the US is still operating a travel ban for EU and UK, so we wouldn't be allowed to enter anyway (not as if we would even try).
So my question is, the airline don't cancel this flight what is my best course of action?
Thanks in advance!

My question is what are my options in this scenario? If they cancel, it’s easy. But I don’t think they will.0 -
