Do you have a way to take a photograph of the letter - blank out your personal bits - and share it here? It might be helpful for others in future that experience something similar.0

The OP has already said "I’ve since securely destroyed the letter" because obviously you wouldn't want to insecurely destroy it. So I doubt that taking a photo of it will be an option.

Seems a bit harsh seeing as you don’t know me.
Yes I work in banking...
So the poster was not having a dig at them, but pointing the truth. Anything out side that remit would require them to check the system for the correct procedure (nota easy task) and then to pick up the phone and call other departments to find out if they had actually sent the letter out.
If they simply took one look at it and said something then at best they are guessing & worst simply lying.
As a point. Always keep details of old accounts, when closed etc. Never know with a CC you may need it for a S75 claim. Or should another PPI handout crop up.Life in the slow lane1 -
Just about procedure, not misuse of a card: I received a text, supposedly from Barclays, asking me if I needed any help with payments during coronavirus. The text contained a link, which I thought was odd, because I'd always been told never to follow a link from email or text. I rang Barclays to check it was genuine and the CS operative didn't know. He put me through to another, British, person who didn't know. I ended up speaking to the fraud team and, from the grilling I got, I was sorry I'd rung.It was a genuine text, but I had to go through a few departments to find that out.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0
