My sons employer, Starbucks, asked him to resign a few weeks ago, stating that they wont be able to give him hours to fit in with his college course. He said he would think about it as he didnt understand why as hes currently furloughed. He then received a message from his manager that his resignation has been accepted. He has replied to say he did not resign but has not heard anything. I suspect this is now just a ploy to avoid paying the additional money for furloughed staff as the government is only covering 70% this month. What would be his next step

Has he not been taken off furlough/returned to work yet?
Does he have contracted hours? What are his plans if his contracted hours are during a time when he's at college?0 -
They could fire him I suppose if due to college he can no longer work when needed, but as he hasn’t resigned they’d have to do that properly - how long has he worked there?
They don’t have to keep him furloughed or pay furlough0 -
Is it a new college course or he is returning to one he had prior to starting to work for Starbucks?0
