Hello, I was wondering if anyone has successfully went from a Classic Barclaycard to a Platinum Card (or Simplicity or Breathe Card) and if so how long did you have the Classic card for before they offered or agreed to a request. Cheers. James

I had the Initial Barclaycard for about 3 years, asked them to upgrade to a Platinum Cashback. They said they could not do that, I would have to upgrade to a Classic card first.
Having another better credit card, I saw no point of keeping this one. So I asked them to cancel it; they forwarded me to another person who offered me 2% cashback on all purchases as well as an increase of my credit limit.
So I guess it did not work out since I did not get the Platinum. But the casback on this "custom" CC is actually better.0 -
interesting thanks for letting me know. James0

Hia Smithja,
Normally attempting to cancel works wonders. Other times banks offer you things out of the blue. I got 0% on BT's this week from Lloyds out of the blue, it just depends what mood the bank is in.
I think after about 2 years as a customer when you start getting OD's and Credit Cards they start trying to give offers.
Mind you I cancelled with Cap 1 and they couldnt be less arsed! So it doesnt always work!0 -
I had an intial card for a year, was then upgraded to a classic card, then 3 months later upgraded to a gold card.
Phoned up last week asking for a reduction in interest rate and they put me through to the "customer loyalty" department who actioned it no problems.
Instead of asking for a card upgrade, ask for a reduction in interest rate - you'll probably get a better response.0 -
Hi, I've had my Barclaycard since 1974. I've never asked for a limit increase or an upgrade in all that time. Earlier this year they suddenly upgraded me to Platinum. I don't know whether to be pleased or miffed that it's taken 33 years!

I had a similar thing requesting the upgrade from my current Platinum card to Platinum+cashback. The first guy I spoke to in India advised me to go to a Barclays branch which I found odd. On asking his name he hung up on me. The second time I rung they had never heard of the cashback card. Requested a cancellation and they transferred me to the office in Scotland, where they offered a market leading 3% on all purchases for 3 months. They said they would see how the scheme goes on whether it would be renewed then so not holding my breath though!0
