Hassle - as in asking Natwest etc. whether they can switch it all

    Or

Hassle - as in asking HSBC to switch to a current account.

Too much hassle for me to continue to contribute to this thread.

Is it easy to convert the existing account into a savings account? Only HSBC can tell you as that is quite an unusual action.

It should be easy. I hope you are able find someone with a bit of common sense at HSBC.

Once the account is converted into a current account, switching using the CASS system should be easy.

There does not appear to be any reason to convert the account to a current account before it can be switched to Natwest (or RBS or Ulster), as I have already described earlier.
So you did, but you also said; "I don't know whether they would transfer all the SOs and DDs (which are highly unusual to have on a savings account). Best to ask them directly."

@donnajunkie's Dad  wants to avoid hassle and even a conversation with NatWest involves hassle. Additionally, their customer support people can not always be relied upon (apparently).

If the account is converted to a current account they would not need to switch. However, they may wish to switch, as HSBC have messed them around and not been very supportive to date.

To be fair i cant say anything about support from hsbc on the issue yet. He got the letter today and plans to go into the local branch to see about it next week. Hopefully they will sort something but incase they dont i thought it a good idea to seek advice here.

I think they mean if staying with them means we don't have to reorganise all related payments then this is less hassle than going elsewhere if doing so means having to reorganise related payments.

Okay, I read too much into your comment that you were peed off with them. Perhaps the letter was computer generated and once a human gets involved they will be supportive and quickly find a solution.

Yeah, we are just annoyed about what they are doing. To expect people to access their cash by walking upto the counter is ridiculous when everything is going the way of plastic.

Well we will be going into our branch tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it after all the research i have done. If what i have seen is correct its going to be alot of hassle. Firstly i think they will either fob us off onto online or make us make an appointment instead of helping us straight away. If we have to do it online I have found we need to phone up for some sort of telephone banking number before we can even start online. Then it seems they may make him send a load of proof of id through the post. Then it looks like we will have to phone the pension service etc to move payments.
tomorrow is not going to be a good day i can see it now.

If you're not prepared and it won't go well....
Not tried a call to customer services? A number on the letter? Tried to make an appointment before turning up? If you do, ask what you need to bring.
Planning to bring id for him? And you if you intend to do the talking?

Things went better than expected. First we got directed to doing it on a computer but I found it said not for existing customers. I was then told somebody in branch will have to do it and I would have to wait 2 weeks to get it done there or I could go to a neighbouring town and get it done today. So that's what we did. We should have our new card within a week. Then I will have to contact the pension service to give them the new details. Everything else after that is easy.
