Urgh IHT claiming not received the paperwork

Waited the obligatory 25 working days after having sent paperwork through recorded delivery and checking with Royal Mail that it had been received. They claim they haven’t received anything from us so I’ve had to give them the post tracking number and delivery details and they are investigating.

i think there’s fat chance they’ll find it so will have to send in copies, what a nuisance and delay on a lengthy process already.

Are you talking about HMRC? Having read these threads I assumed getting probate would be mega-complicated.  I knew there would be no IHT to pay so my process of 14 days from start to receiving physical Grant isn't (probably) representative.  I DO get the impression that applying on-line is far quicker than any other option.  Good luck!

Had exactly the same thing, BUT they had returned the original bank statements proving they had received them. They let me fax the copies and I got a response the same day, no tax to 😄

  • It’s not the probate it’s hmrc who haven’t issued the iht421 and probate have written to us to say they are still waiting for it to be sent on. Ah well, I’m going to copy the copies ready to send again next week and try not to get too frustrated.
I’m sure people do this but always take copies of everything and send paperwork recorded delivery, I’m glad I did !
