Barclaycard "A quick look at your Direct Debit" email

Hi All
Just got this email from Barclaycard telling me how much my statement is and when a payment is due.
I've been receiving them along with SMS messages for sometime. I've never asked for these Alerts.
On Barclaycard site I've disabled all alerts. I rang Barclaycard and they said it was new regulations making them do this. My other CC doesn't do this. Are they right?
Security concerns:
Although BarclayCard only mention my first name and amount,  I'm getting similar emails from other institutions if my email were to be hacked these emails combined make up too much info for my liking.
With SMS if my number gets switched they only get New SMS msgs. Emails will have my whole history. I do delete these emails but often forget to empty trash even though there is an expiry on trash items.
Thanks Terry

    You’re overthinking it.
Just make sure the details are perma-deleted.

Setup 2FA in your email account.
  • If you're worried then make sure your email is secure. Use 2FA (use an authenticator rather than SMS as this is harder to bypass/hack) and a strong password. That will reduce the chance of your emails being hacked basically down to zero. It's very unlikely someone will target you, so as long as you're vigilant about phishing emails you'll be fine.

As for the correspondance, Barclaycard legally have to send you certain correspondence about your account. You've obviously chosen to receive it electronically so what else do you want them to do? You could go back to snail mail but I think there's more security issues with that option...
  • Thanks for the replies: 2FA is enabled.
My other CC company doesn't alert me to DD payment dates other than their statements. So this may well be a legal requirement but I've asked friends and BarlcayCard is the only one doing it, unsolicited.
I still get paper statements from Barclaycard, so don't think I've been duped into paperless when using their website.
Its easy, just a moment of distraction and I've clicked on a dodgy link before.

Most email providers have some form of URL protection that looks for phishing links and blocks them when they’re inadvertently clicked.
