FedEx invoice

Remember that VAT is also charged on the shipping cost too.
20% of £32.09 = £6.42.0 -
It’s your responsibility to be aware of any VAT and duty on the way in - if you weren’t there’s no one to blame but yourself. It’s common knowledge. If you weren’t ever told it’s not OK to steal from Tesco does that make it alright?
Nope - and it’s the same with importing. Just because you haven’t done your homework doesn’t mean you can get away with VAT and duty on your import. You’re responsible for the amount, if you don’t pay they’ll take you to court for the amount due. It’s not their fault you don’t know what’s due when you import goods.1 -
Thank you all for your input. I am aware of the VAT and had no intention to avoid. I have shopped previously from the same company and the import amount FedEx used to charge me was no where near what they are charging now. The shopping total was over £300 and the VAT was only £13 something. When I saw the amount this time I thought FedEx are trying to rip me off. Anyway Can I ask FedEx to show me the original paper work to make sure they havent added anything artificially?

Of course. Ask FedEx to send you a breakdown of what you're being charged for. But you're still missing the point: It's not FedEx that calculates the import duty. They are passing on to you what they have already been charged. The only thing they will have added is an administration charge, which is entirely fair of them to do so.1

You can ask, but the numbers you have given us all add up. The seller in the past has probably lowered the invoice value to minimise your duty and VAT.Johny86 said:

Of you are importing stuff you should calculate the worst case scenario before buying. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't, sounds like you have in the past.1 -
If you are aware of VAT, which is 20%, then clearly £300 shouldn't have been £13 VAT unless the previous order was for items that are either exempt or 0% (eg books or childrens clothing)Johny86 said:I am aware of the VAT and had no intention to avoid.
