OLED TV screen burn

Options
Hello

Just wonder if anyone has had any success with claiming under CRA for screen burn?

Basically, I purchased an expensive premium Philips OLED TV 20 months ago and a week or two ago I noticed that the Good Morning Britain logo has been permanently burned into the screen (please don’t judge - I don’t tend to watch it when Piers Morgan is hosting!)

I’ve been in touch with Philips and they have basically told me that it’s not covered under warranty as it is down to “usage” not manufacturing fault. I’m still progressing with the seller (John Lewis), but is suspect they will say something similar.

As far as I’m concerned, I have used the set as anyone would expect to use a TV set. There is absolutely no way that the logo has been constantly displayed for more than 20 minutes either, as of course ITV has commercial breaks.

Essentially I don’t expect to pay thousands of pounds for a TV which effectively becomes unusable after 20 months and I do feel very aggrieved and as a result I’m minded to make a claim in the CC of necessary under CRA (satisfactory quality and fit for purpose), although I do have option of Section 75 claim via Credit Card company and escalation to FOS.

What do you think my chances are?

Thanks A lot all

Chances are slim, have you followed the process in the manual for refreshing it?
Have you also used the options on the set to tone down logos etc? (we have this feature on our OLED LG65B9)
  • Can't you just pretend that everything you watch is made by GMB?  :D

As others have said, you might find stories of successful action on a specialist forum.

What does the user manual state about burn in? Does it give warnings and talk about ways to avoid it like turning down the brightness or using a picture mode like Cinema rather than Vivid? Did you follow all those advices?

Are you saying GMTV doesnt run for 20 minute periods? I would have thought that would have been about right for their runs
