Royal Mail Tracking is it worth it?

I sent two items through Royal Mail over two weeks ago and Royal Mail online tracking is not showing any updates. One of the parcels was delivered last week and confirmed by the recipient. The other was a very important letter and I don't know if that's been delivered. Is it worth paying extra to get a tracked service when it is not working? Rant over..

Depends on the nature of the tracking service ... if it only tracks when signed for delivery then it's pretty pointless - Signed For will be cheaper and will give the same tracking. That said, CV19 is changing the landscape anyway - actual signatures are no longer being recorded, so delivery is merely noted by the person making the delivery.

no tracking information on the both of them.
  • Personally I only find it useful when I need the proof that I've sent the item and it was received at the other end (eg. eBay sales). Other then that, actually being able to track the item in transit, whilst interesting, isn't really all that useful to me - if it goes missing, it doesn't really matter that I know roughly where it was when it went missing as the item is still lost!

I sent a tracked letter to the Probate dept so needed to know it arrived. It was never signed for but the Probate department had received it, so complete waste of money.

Proof of posting or Special delivery - anything in between is a waste of money.
  • Its not worth paying for the tracking if the letter is going to a large company who receive dozens of letters each day. Each letter cant be signed for individually, most times a bag is handed to whoever is on the reception/post room desk and one signature is given for them all. Can you imagine somewhere like the DVLA having to sign for each individual letter? If its something vital then you need Special delivery as these are kept separate and signed for individually.
