vintage Wickes conservatory

I noticed an ad for a  vintage Wickes hardwood conservatory on a dutch site similar to Ebay (actually owned by Ebay) and I would like to now if the asking price is worth having a go at. It concerns the model Cheshire from 1995. Is there anybody who still owns this type and can tell me what the retail price was at the time? Thanks in advance, Theo.

    You're in NL?

So you may not be familiar with Wickes. They are not... top-end of the market. They're a cheap-and-cheerful builder's merchant, who also sell fairly mediocre kitchens/bathrooms/conservatories. No more than that.

Is it worth it? Well, 25 years is plenty of time for the wood to rot.
  • If it's a 25 year old used Wickes conservatory I'd expect the owner to be paying whoever takes it down and takes it away. If it's unused New Old Stock I guess it'll have some value. They were never exactly top of the line or seen as design classics though. How cheap is it?
  • Sorry, I forgot to mention that the conservatory is unused and that all parts are still in their original packaging and were stored dry (at least that's what they claim) inside.

I don't know what price a brand new conservatory of a similar size and construction is over there, but I doubt the Wickes one is worth any more than 50% of a new one, probably less, and possibly the quality of the materials is far inferior to current models.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

It may be half price materials, but, unless you are going to build it yourself, the labour will cost the same. Factor in the transport cost, and is the saving really worth it?
What sort of sane person buys a conservatory, but never quite gets around to building it for a quarter of a century?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Somebody who takes a look, realises how mediocre the quality is, and just loses enthusiasm?
