Aye but now 7 people sat in a beer garden is frowned upon, but 30 people sat round a table, indoor, getting off their faces and probably shouting across the table spreading their potential germs, is fine. Utterly ridiculous.
Again, although the risk might be similar, the frequency of weddings is lower. Some people might be going to the pub every night, so although only meeting a couple of friends, there are still other people in the venue (hopefully distanced/screened). A larger wedding only happens once and most people don't attend many (I've only been to six weddings in my entire life!).

Also it helps venues who otherwise may have little or no income. Pubs can still make similar amounts of money with lots of tables of six. Wedding venues you generally hire the whole room, so if they weren't operating then thats more staff redundant.

Yes there are risks doing anything at the moment, but there also needs to be balance.
  • Allegedly a hotel may offer a 2nd room if the number exceeds any limits imposed. The 2nd room would be
a different function but staff cannot arrest guests if they decide its safe to move to the other function room.

Not allowing 30 guests in what could be a fairly large room, how many can you pack onto a plane?

The rules are there for a reason not for looking for ways around them.

But it  seems some people  would rather have what they want rather despite thee possible consequences than accept  the restrictions

Went to the pub at the weekend - someone decided to have their 40th birthday party in the smallish pub garden. 60 people in total they sat at 10 tables and you would have thought they were abiding by the rules.

She proudly confirmed she did the track and trace....then went on to hug and triple kiss every guest.

Rules are there for a reason but the rules cant account for utter stupidty. I just hope we don't hear from the track and trace process as a result...

It was only a couple of months ago some people were attending protests numbering in the thousands and very few people in the government/media said what they were doing was wrong........yet 7 people in a kitchen is ''utter stupidity''

Most evidence seems to show that protests haven't caused major spikes in cases. Mainly because they are outdoors and a lot of people were wearing masks and were generally sober. See https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/24/black-lives-matter-protests-havent-caused-spike-covid-cases-12899049/ Whereas recently people have been hosting drunken house parties where they forget about distancing, don't wear masks and are all indoors (where the virus lingers more due to less ventilation).

Utterly ridiculous the inconsistency in all this.

The guests still have to be socially distanced. So, unless you've got a very big household (or a very big table that allows 2m spacing) you won't have 30 people sat round a table
