Pending Transaction Disappearred but item arrived

Options
Hi
Tried finding this already on the forum but couldn't see anything that specifically relates to my query.
I purchased something online and the order was accepted and the transaction was showing as pending on my account, and my available balance showed reflected this. After a week and no further communication from the website and also the transaction still showing as pending I contacted the company for an update.
The next day the transaction had disappeared from my pending transactions and the money was back in my account but I then got a dispatch notification from the company for the item and it was subsequently delivered 2 days later. The transaction/money still hasn't went through my account and its been a few days since the item was delivered.
Can the company now come back and try and debit my account after the pending transaction has dropped off? Just want to make sure that I have enough money in my account incase they take the money and make me overdrawn

Yes, the company can debit your account later so keep enough funds to cover it.  Card transactions involve separate authorisation and settlement processes, i.e. "has the cardholder got enough money available?" and then (later) "I would now like to take the authorised sum" - they're often processed on the same day but not always....

Assuming the company is in England (or Wales) then they'd have up to 6 years to come to you for the money (5 years in Scotland) however best practices state that if its after 6 months then they should regain your permission to charge the card.

As mentioned by eskbanker, just keep the funds there so it can be covered when its required... for various reasons I've had items appear before funds have been taken but 99% of the time the funds are taken within a week or so.
  • Thank you very much for the replies. I was thinking that they would have the right but just thought I'd double check. I'll make sure I've enough to cover it and hopefully remember that this amount is still pending and not think i have this extra money available to spend lol

Why did you not use a credit card for this purchase?
Much safer IMO and you only pay for it when it appears on your statement.

Except when the retailer does not take the debit as per OP.
But I get your drift, as you get advance warning it is due to be paid, rather than just debiting out of the blue.
