Money back on voucher from British Airways

Hi. My daughter & I were due to go to France in August of this year. We cancelled our flights booking with British Airways.
I got voucher codes to re book for next Aug 2021, which was fine.
I spent two hours either online or in the phone in the end to BA a couple of days ago to re book, the flight for next year worked out cheaper than our original flights (the amount we had to spend on the voucher).
When I asked the gentleman from BA did he want my card details to put the outstanding £98.97p on, he said oh no this amount will have to stay as a voucher, and is valid to use by April 2022.

It also turns out that I can’t even used the rest of the voucher to reserve the seats for the flight, going out and back, he said I’ll have to pay for those separately.
All I really want is the £98.97p back on my debit card as I’ve now had to pay an extra £40 on new reserved seats for next years flights.
Does anyone know if this is possible to do, I do have travel insurance, would I need to get in touch with them.

Not sure but I think I read that any difference would be given as a credit, not a refund. Which probably means you have the 98 towards another flight? Not sure your insurance would entertain it tbh but no harm in trying. Might not be worth it if you have an excess on your policy?0
