"A note about our prices
From 1 September 2020, if you sign up to a new contract or renew
your contract for a BT Landline (including call charges, features and
plans), BT Mobile (including plans, monthly add-ons, and call, text and
data charges), BT Broadband, BT TV or BT Sport (including TV and Sport
add-ons), the monthly price will increase every year from March 2021.
These increases are based on the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation
which is published in January each year plus 3.9%"
I looked at my BT account today, and there's a notice telling me my BT TV Max pack plus BT Sports will increase from £20 to £24 from 1st November.
I'll probably cancel and go back to NowTV, but not through BT with their overpriced two year long contracts.
"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock
They're increasing by CPI PLUS 3.9%. It's not been that long since in-contract rates added a CPI increase (only) but to add 3.9% plus CPI is taking the biscuit.
I'd never sign up to that contract, robbing barstewards. If Sky try this then it would tip me over the edge to quitting them instantly.
Just sorting out a new contract for mother-in-law and saw the new CPI plus 3.9% change for all new contracts from 1 Sep 20, and it also states every year. That is surely unsustainable for them. Every year? Does that mean it could be an automatic 5% increase every year? I think people will leave in droves when that hits the press. The mother in law is reluctant to leave BT, but it might be time. I am still with them at the moment and they are changing all sorts of things like the price of BT Sport etc. I always think they hide the details from their customers, 'line rental saver ending' and all that. I wonder if the others are any better - certainly cheaper!
I called BT yesterday to cancel the sport part of my package having received the same email (£4 price rise, currently paying £10 per month), was given a sob story about why it was going up ( to enable BT to keep bidding for the best sport on offer.....?), told him I wasn’t interested as I didn’t watch that much anyway, he then told me I had to pay £78 cancellation fee, told him I’d received the email saying no charges, he insisted that I had to pay it as that only applied if cancelled within 30 days of taking out the sport, told him to leave it as I’d have to do some research, thanks to the other contributors to this site , I went back into battle this morning, however this time I spoke with someone who knew what they were doing and put the cancellation through without any qualms or charges, so thanks forumites, hope this helps anyone else who gets the first person I spoke with ( can’t remember his name but he was at the Exeter call centre).
