Hi all, hope someone can help. My Mum has an annual insurance policy in place since last year. She left the U.K. on March 9th spent a few days in New York and then arrived in Colombia on the 12th March due to return in April. Colombia locked down in March and closed its borders. International flights have not resumed and it just finished lockdown 31st August. There were some humanitarian flights but my father who’s 70 (and was in Colombia since last September because he’s retired) got COVID19 and was hospitalised and so she stayed to look after him.
Her flights with Delta were cancelled and she has a credit note for her return when commercial international flights resume.
Shes just had her annual insurance policy renewal - it’s 3 x last year’s one as she was 65 this March (no medical conditions to report) We don’t know when she will return to the U.K. (she is still working and the U.K. is still her home) hopefully October but is it worth looking for new travel insurance and run the risk of them not covering a possible claim because she’s been out of the country for so long/was abroad at the time of the renewal or should we just pay the renewal this year to keep the continuity?

Most travel insurance will have conditions on how long each trip is, or how long you have to be back in the UK before you travel again. I suspect almost every mainstream product out there she is currently ineligible for.
Even the one she has just had the renewal through for may no longer be valid.1
