Smart meter

We had smart meters installed 6 weeks ago, the main fuse in our fuse box blew when the engineer put the electric back on. We were told we had to call out an electrician, pay for it ourselves then claim the money back. After weeks of going back and forth they are offering to pay us £100 of the £250.80 that the electrician bill was. Anyone any advice??

    Seems odd, why did the fuse blow?  And is a local electrician allowed to break the seals and replace the main fuse?
    Still, they seem to be admitting responsibility; presumably the technician should have taken various precautions such as switching everything off before powering up the supply.  If the technician caused the problem they should have a procedure for dealing with such events; they should have far more experience than the unlucky customer.
    State that only the full amount is acceptable.  Ask for a deadlock letter, then go to the Ombudsman upon receipt or after eight weeks (six if it's SSE) if they don't send one.  You might even wish to add £25 compo for the aggro !
  • I had a Smart Meter fitted today to my electricity supply by Avro energy.  The engineer was unable to fit one to my gas supply because of constraints in the meter box. He said this was a regular problem.  My house is only 20 years old. How many people are aware of this problem?
