  • My sister and I have Lasting Power of Attorney for our mother. We registered with the bank when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. A relative has taken mother into the bank with a letter signed by mum and the bank have removed us from the account. without any consultation , is this normal practice. We now have no idea what is happening to her money .
    Raise a complaint.

First port of call would be to ascertain exactly what happened at the bank, as on the face of it they shouldn't have revoked your attorney rights - you may need to submit a formal subject access request ahead of a complaint....

If the bank have acted in the way described above, then it sounds like a matter for the Office of the Public Guardian - you're still formally attorneys unless or until a proper revocation process is followed, so read up on this at https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney/end and contact the OPG for guidance.

Have you LPA for both Finance and Health and Welfare?

Has your mother's doctor confirmed that she has lost capacity?

Although your mother has signed an LPA, she can still issue instructions to the bank, for all the bank knows she has regained some mental capacity. It was the old Enduring Power of Attorney which took away the Donor's rights to continue to administer their own affairs.
More worrying is what will be the next document your relative puts under your mother's hand for signature. You and your sister are still your mother's attorneys, but unless the bank has a policy, as some do, of only allowing Attorney to control an account while denying the Donor access, your relative could soon be asking your mother to make financial transactions.
