I sent off the HMRC forms and the probate ones last week. The tracking shows a signature (well, a mark on the paper) for the probate package but the HMRC one says “collected by Wolverhampton DO”. Please can someone put my mind at rest and tell me that is the normal tracking! I can’t seem to find anywhere online that says that is where the inheritance tax unit is based. I do know the BX postcode is non geographical.

Almost certainly absolutely fine, but why not give the probate helpline a call if you are worried: 0300 123 1072
They should be able to confirm where (geographically) these forms are currently being received.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
Good idea. I was just thinking if someone else had seen this on their tracking I could get a quicker peace of mind.0

I've got exactly the same tracking message! I assumed the package was still in the Royal Mail system though. I'll try and ring the HMRC helpline on Monday too. Nothing's ever simple is it?

I sent using Royal Mail SignedFor service in July. 6 days later(!) "Collected and Signed at Your Customer Service Point. Wolverhampton DO". and "Your Item was collected from Wolverhampton DO at ... ". It was signedfor by what I assumed to be a scanning company. If I had known, I would have offered to send HMRC my own pdfs directly.

Jjimjam - yes I've just Googled the signatory and worked out that HMRC are outsourcing their document scanning to a company called EDM in Wolverhampton! So hopefully that will save a phone call to HMRC tomorrow. ..0

Jjimjam - can I ask how long did it take to get a response from HMRC, roughly?0

I hope the scanning company keep the originals in case of errors in scanning!
