Splitting a phone contract

Hello all
I’m after advice on behalf of my girlfriend. She is currently paying through the nose for a mobile phone contract. The contract is 36 months and runs out in May 2022. She is paying £56.93 a month of which £19.03 a month is for the device. £7.50 is for insurance and the rest is the tariff. She can cancel the insurance but is obviously needing to still pay for the phone. The tariff is a lot higher than SIM only deals her provider 02 is currently offering, but they won’t let her change it. Is there any way she can split her contract and keep paying for the phone while changing her tariff to a cheaper one?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Not if she is still in contract.
She could sell the phone if it would raise a big chunk of the balance needed to buy out the remaining months tariff

At this point, it might be worth finding out what the early exit fee for the contract is as it's going to save you at least a year of paying this.0

That does not make sense unless exit is less than one years contract .
