My phone was out of action for about a week but as I still had internet access it didn't cause me much of a problem. Any calls I needed to make I used my mobile.
Engineer sorted out the problem on Saturday & it was a nice surprise to receive an email from NowTv that evening to say they were crediting my account with a months subscription as a compensation gesture. I hadn't actually asked for any compensation seeing as I hadn't really been inconvenienced, so really appreciate them giving me this of their own free will.

Sky have been advertising about money back if there are any issues/speed lower than guaranteed ... NowTV are owned by Sky - maybe they're following the same offer?
PS - do you have fibre broadband? (FTTC) If yes then that may explain why Internet was OK but phone was out - after your local cabinet, your phone line and broadband take separate routes back to the exchange. (Phone uses the original copper pair, fibre uses - well - fibre).0
