Chancel repair liability?

Hello
There was a chancel check completed which advised The above address is located within the historical boundary
of a tithe district within a parish which continues to have a potential chancel
repair liability based upon historical parish boundary data and the relevant
Inland Revenue Indices held by The National Archives.
It then goes on to talk about insurance for this.
Do I need to be worried- is this enforced or is it even applicable? ...seems pretty archaic! Can anyone advise?

It's not unknown for these to get enforced , the local church needs £200,000 of repairs , you are liable for a share.
I paid a minimal amount for a policy to cover itEx forum ambassador

It means there's a 0.0000000000001% (aprox) chance a grasping church will demand money from you despite as you say, the archaic nature, and injustice of the whole setup,
You can buy insurance against it. And perhaps it's something I should be considering as I'll be buying sometime.1 -

Is a more up to date take on it.1 -
My policy cost £17.1

It'll be more like £200-300 pounds if it is known that the property is liable. It is very annoying.1

Mind boggling. thanks fore your replies. Are the policies a one off payment or are they due annually? The articles are a bit tricky to decipher. I read somewhere to the effect that if you make further enquiries it makes you more liable??1

I would try praying to god that you don't ever have to pay for chancel repairs.
