Part Furlough

Options
Hi,I used to work 40 hours per week and was furloughed from 1st April. I have now been brought back to work for 20 hours and am on furlough for the other 20 hours.  I have received email communication to say that this will continue until 31st October, it then states that I may be laid off for  20 hours so will not be paid for these hours.  I cannot afford to work for only 20 hours, is there anything I can do?  I have worked for this company for 19 years.
Many thanks
Jo

  • What does your contract say about laying off or short time working? If it's a lay off situation it should only be short term, have they advised how long they plan to do this for? The other option here is redundancy so if you can't afford to work part time is it better than being made redundant?

What the employer says about the part time work, part time furlough until the end of October seems correct.
What industry are you in?  Is it likely that workload will recover by the end of October to avoid the need for lay-off?  Or even 4 days out of 5, which would be 80% work and 20% lay-off and the same as when it was all furlough in April so, not ideal but possibly survivable?
