Why on earth did you phone this company you have been completely & utterly RIPPED OFF, to give you an example, I am just about to replace the flush valve & fillvalve in 2 cisterns & total cost for both of those will be £132.64I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Being in London/Watford is no excuse either, although you should expect prices to be a bit higher due to everyone's higher living costs in these areas. I mentioned Pimlico Plumbers - I understand most of these guys earn between £100k and £200k pa.0

Thanks everyone for your comments on this thread. I wrote up a polite email questioning the costs I was charged and then before I sent it found the toilet was still leaking! From what I can tell it's related to the large crack/chip which was missed on the initial visit so I really wasn't impressed at that point. Anyway, I updated the email to add that further information and sent it off to the company owner last night. He emailed back at 11pm to say he'd read it and was sorry I'd had a bad experience and would get back to me today to put things right.
He called this afternoon and he's going to refund half of what I paid which brings it down to roughly (hourly rate agreed x hours that should have been spent) + parts which I think is fair. He's also sending another of his guys round next week to stop the leak for good. It will be a bit of a bodge job by the sounds of things, but enough to buy me some time until I re-do the bathroom early next year. The owner was really nice and I'm glad I got in touch with him. I'm also very happy the guy who came before isn't coming back! I imagine there have been some interesting discussions between them today.
Thanks again to everyone who's commented. I've definitely learnt some lessons here but you've given me the support I needed to stand up for myself and do something about it. And I'll definitely be using the "Is this Quote Fair?" board before going ahead with work in the future.1 -
Thanks for the update. That seems like a reasonable outcome.
Assuming you are not going to replace the cistern, adding a sealant to the crack on the inside should work fine.1
