Maternity swapped with paternity leave?

A work colleague suggested there might be potential to swap maternity and paternity leave provisions in some parts of Europe - can I assume this is absolutely not the case in the UK? Or am I on to a huge winner?
Thanks!

Thanks!

No it's not the case - the very reason Maternity was originally set up was to give the woman a chance to recuperate after the birth (obviously things have changed since!)0

It is not yet the case, but could be by the end of this parliament :

A Swedish colleague of mine has just gone on 10 months paternity leave, his wife has already done 9 months maternity leave. There are rules and to get this length of time they have sacrifised some salary. But the costs still work out lots cheaper than taking on childcare.0
