Cost of brake discs and pads

Hi
I have a Nissan Juke 2014 model and got a quote from a garage to replace brake pads and discs.  Below is the quote.

Cost to replace front brake discs and pads £204.90
Cost to replace rear brake discs and pads £217.26

I just had work done by this garage on my Juke to renew N/S/F lower suspension arm and driveshaft with labor for £584.79
What are your thoughts on the prices?
Any advice is much appreciated

Are these dealership prices or something.... front and rear pads and discs I'd expect to be about 150 parts plus 3 hrs labour 300 max

arm and driveshafts sound inflated too

Front pads and discs on my Focus a year ago = £266 inc VAT.  Trusted independent garage.
Different car, but your costs quoted seem fair.
  • Brakes cost seems reasonable but I'd be worried about having to replace rear brakes on a 6 year old car, how many miles has it done?

Front suspension arm and driveshaft sounds very expensive.
How did you even get to the point of needing a replacement driveshaft?
  • @nerox. The car broke down in the car park near the exit last week where the Ball joint wish bone arm Pushed the drive shaft out.  It was a nightmare where I got Car rescue to tow the car to the garage.  NSF drive shaft part cost. £325.75 alone.
Juke has done 86850 Miles.  Do you know at what milage we are supposed to replace the Cam belt?
Many Thanks for all your answers.  Much appreciated!

    Depends on which engine.
1.2 Turbo petrol is a chain so you're good.
If it's the 1.5dCI, it's well overdue, you need to be booking it now as it's over a year overdue and it's 60 months/90,000 miles so I'd get it done sooner than later.

As I've mentioned in other brake related threads - there are brake pads, and there are brake pads. If they are dealer pads, they'll be pretty good, if they are from a reputable brand, they'll be pretty good, but there are some cheap brands out there, and some are not much better than compressed cardboard that'll wear through in a few months. By all means ask what exactly is being fitted for the price quoted - but brakes is not an area to skimp on. You can put in a cheaper oil, use a cheaper air filter, put on a cheaper back box, use a cheaper tail lamp bulb, but in an emergency brakes are what get you stopped. It's good that you're querying the prices - but if the items being fitted are decent brands - that's not far off the price I'd expect. I'd be asking what brands were being fitted if not dealer - and that after the work was complete, you'd want the cardboard boxes and old pads left in the car.

Personally would never buy brake pads on ebay - better to get them from a reputable outlet where they are likely to be branded and decent quality.

Personally I would never pay hundreds of pounds for a garage to perform a simple replacement of consumable parts which I could easily do myself.
