Could anyone help please. Very briefly, Ryanair cancelled our return flight to Edinburgh on 21st March. After 600 odd attempts we finally got thru to their call centre and they rebooked us on a flight to Manachester on 20th March. When we arrived at the airport we were told this flight was overbooked and we did not have a seat. They moved us to a later flight to Stanstead. We arrived in Stanstead at approx 2.30am. We had to make our own arrangements to get to Edinburgh. We submitted a claim for the refund of these expenses in April. Since then we have had no response from Ryanair!  We have requested a progress update on three occasions but again no response
Our questions are
1. Are we entitled to a refund of of these expenses?
2. Should we be claiming compensation rather than expenses refund?
3. Should the claim be made through our travel insurance?
Any advice would be appreciated

  • Bit more info required.  Who did you book through and where are you flying from?   On the info you have given, Ryanair should have refunded you for the cancelled trip back in March but if you have accepted all the alterations down the line it becomes more complicated.    I would say you should be definitely due compensation for being booked on a flight that didn't have a seat and being sent 400 miles in the opposite direction!

Check your insurance to see if you are covered for out of pocket expenses also.
  • Many thanks. The flights were booked directly with Ryanair. Our cancelled return flight was from Tenerife South to Edinburgh on 21 March; it cancelled on Wednesday 18th March. We then started to phone the number they gave in the cancellation e-mail. We had over 300 calls on Thursday and over 300 on Friday before getting through to them. They booked us on a flight to Manchester due to depart at 18:50 - on arrival at the airport we were advised that it was overbooked, we did not have a seat, and our only option was a flight to Stanstead. It arrived in Stanstead at approx 2:30am - we booked into a budget airport hotel and arranged a car hire the next morning to get back to Edinburgh
