Travel insurance when going to Europe for surgery?

Where's good for looking for travel insurance when going abroad for surgery(reliable and not extortionate) ? Do we all need to be insured through the same company or can we get regular insurance for those of us not having surgery? What features do we need to look for?

The person going for surgery is not going to be covered by a standard travel insurance policy. (So reliable and not extortionate is not going to be the case).
If something goes wrong I really doubt whether a family member or travelling companion would be covered for say an operation going wrong and then they having to stay longer and wanting a new flight home or additional hotel nights to stay with the family member.

You all need a specialist policy - contact an insurance broker - sorry I have no idea of what the premium would be.

Going abroad for surgery is most likely not insurable, you may be able to get cover for delayed flights, lost baggage etc but that's going to be about it.

Other people travelling are likely to be in a similar situation, they may get cover for their own medical needs as well but it's unlikely that anyone will insure against a delay caused by a planned medical procedure
