I need help and advice after being sent a bill for over £1000 by Bulb energy

I was a customer of Bulb energy. I applied to switch and gave meter readings which they queried. I had inadvertently input my gas readings into the area for electricity readings and vice versa. Not sure when I first did this, just been under pressure after dad was ill and then he died from covid. But my fault, I never noticed and Bulb didn’t. They asked for a high amount which I queried as I am a fairly low user and have always paid by direct debit. I was going through my account writing down each reading to work it out myself. I now no longer have access to those records and they now want over £1000 from me. I do accept that I have made errors, but I am at the end of my tether and do not know what to do. I cannot owe what they are asking for. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Did you get the readings backwards when you switched to Bulb, or when trying to switch away from them? If it was when switching to Bulb, was the final bill from the previous supplier correct? What did Bulb do about the swapped readings? Is the £1000 bill somehow based on the swapped figures or after correction? What is your annual consumption?A timeline of events with associated meter readings might help us understand what's happening.0

Update ! I can’t delete the thread, but a very quick update. After being afraid to call bulb, I found a number and spoke to a lovely person who said that the bill i had been sent was incorrect and that they owe me almost £200. So, after emails saying pay up they owe me. Normally a strong person, but all of us need help at time. I am glad I managed to speak to someone and not a ‘chatbot’ and a ton is off my shoulders2
