Why do I think the OP has a point here.
The email says they WILL price match. They have stated they price matched in error, but that does not change the agreement. The error by JL is nothing to do with the error in the price on Jessops - the offer to price match forms a separate agreement (likewise if Jessops dropped the price further JL would only agree to price match at the point at which its assessed.

You unfortunately have to read the full email, at least the ones I have seen have said it is subject to secondary checks at the point the claim is submitted and so the original email is only "in principle" rather than a guarantee.

My ill fated fridge and freezer purchase from JL was a pricematch and whilst I no longer have the email I do recall that I was concerned that there was wriggle room for the online price match process such that I went in store to do it even though it was a ball ache as the percentage was too great for the guys on the floor to do it and had to be referred to the customer service department on the top floor who agreed the price but sent me back downstairs to complete the sale with a scrap of paper with an authorisation code.
  • yes , I have 28 days to return

I assume that only applies if the camera remains unused.
no they have said if its used it doesn't matter because of the circumstances.

If JL had refused the price match the OP wouldn't even be here now and out the cost of the camera.
I personally think JL are on the hook here and would push the subject with JL.
My point is john Lewis don't want to take a loss but they are happy for me to take a loss on an agreement.
my main issues is john lewis say they do checks with the company they price match its not automated as I didn't get that email until the following day.
I have just now asked for a pick up collection and would need proof its been picked up with a receipt  as I am afraid they will use hermes.

Not so sure about that. They offered the price match in the erroneous belief that Jessops was actually selling at the price - and it turns out they weren't.

    full email.

Thank you for your recent price match enquiry.

We’ve checked with Jessops and have found that the Sony Cybershot RX10 Mk3 Digital Bridge Camera 82920102 is priced at £279, so we're happy to match this price.

You can place your order using one of the following options:

The price match is valid for one order placed with johnlewis.com within 28 days, for a maximum of 10 items.

When you place the order, you’ll be charged the full price. Once you’ve received the item and you’re happy with it, please reply to this email to let us know, quoting your order number and this reference number CASE-xxxxxxx. We can then process a refund for the price difference, back to your original method of payment, and confirm when this has been done.

No one in their right mind will even think about paying 1k for an item priced at £279 in another store unless they knew it was a mistake. A good try though but as most on here know pricing errors don't count in law so the price match would only work on the Jessops real price.

JL do not have to price match.
They have many many get out clauses, the classic being the 'unique' model number where they add a random letter for example..

If the JL employee agreed - the manual assessment they made of the offer was deemed acceptable at the point at which it was reviewed. Remember the price match is in addition to the consumer right, they don't HAVE to price match.

I gave the camera away as a gift ,which was a stupid idea but with the price match arleady agreed on email I thought it would be fine. <<

    So which is it?
Have you given it already, or not yet got the camera?

Still it's a moot point going forward as JL are no looking at no longer price matching in the future.

I received the camera it  was then  given away as a gift then they refused the price acceptance. Its all sorted now it will be collected from another address already arrange a collection an hour ago.
so everything is sorted now thanks.

yes I seen that news last week they cant keep up with other competitors and their cheaper prices I guess its just a matter of time before they are wiped off the high  street by Amazon also.
Only good thing was they give an extra years warranty but looking at reviews they found ways to wriggle out of that also.
  • I think the "pick up collection" refers to the return to JL.
