Choosing a Specific Mobile Number - Unique Sims?

Hi
I have stumbled across a website offering unique sims. I have my own number for over 20 years but feel I need to change my number. I would much prefer a number which will be easy to remember.
To me, it seems a bit odd to me that mobile numbers can be bought. Grateful if anyone can offer info as to the validity of this?
Here is the link to the website - it doesn't look very professional to me and I was wondering if it's a type of scam?
http://www.uniquesims.com/number/buy/
Many thanks

You're buying a sim with that number. It's been going on for years, mostly on Ebay.
You buy the sim and then transfer the number from the network it's on to your own network. The sims are all payg.
The better the number the more the sim costs, they used to be called Gold numbers and some went for £100's...

I got my number from eBay nearly 20 years ago. It's a phenomenal number and cost £5. I bought the PAYG SIM, registered it, then asked for PAC, Used PAC to Port number on to the network required.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

I've had the same number (ends x0x0x0) since 1998 and got it at random with my first PAYG phone but everyone thinks I paid a premium for it1
