Scooter insurance

Hi all, I own a push start, no seat electric scooter and have been told by the police that I need insurance (among other things) in order to use it. Anyone know any company that offers this insurance as I am struggling big time? Thanks.

Do you have a picture of what you are talking about? Its unfortunate that scooter is now both the lower powered motorbike type thing and the illegal to use on the road grown up version of a kids toy.

Does it have  a vehicle registration?

If it's the latter then it's not legal to use on the road at all, with or without insurance. Not sure what the police are on about.

Which is why I am assuming its not, it also wouldnt fit with the "push start" but then that doesnt fit with my understanding of an electric anything because none have a starter motor like an ICE needs. That said, given the quality of advice from the Police in relation to insurance that I've heard in the past... I wont fully assume anything!

This is about to become a very hot topic. Several major cities are about to launch E Scooter schemes, think Boris Bikes but scooters. They have had special legislation written for them to permit their use on certain public roads and there is an insurer who has agreed to provide RTA compliant insurance for them. The legislation and insurance is only for these specific endorsed E Scooters and all other E Scooters are still prohibited from being used as per the very clear Halfords article linked to above.
