Unsure about what to expect from The Claims Guys after a PPI payout

I employed TCGs in July 2019 because I live in France (moved here 2006) and had practically no knowledge of loans, accounts, credit cards that I had had while in UK. Basically I only gave them my (numerous) addresses in UK from about 1975 and organisations which might have added PPI to my account. Nothing much happened until today, when I got a chq from Barclaycard. From my (rather poor) memory I had a Barclaycard CC from about 1980 to 1985, but I can't be sure.
Is this the normal way that a payment is made? That is, the lender send the amount to the claimant and then TCGs send in their bill?
Since I signed up after July 2018 then I think that their commission will be 20% + VAT?
Am I right?
I am very happy to pay them, because there is no way I could have done this myself.

  • Yea, that's the normal way.

If you had access to a computer or post box, you could easily have done it yourself.  They just sent a generic letter to the companies you named.
  • Thanks, zx81. My wife and I did do our own PPI claim to Halifax (successful) in 2014, but I am no longer able to put two thoughts together, meaning I had to use consultants. My wife is from 2003 and could not help in recalling who, what or when I might have got involved with back in the 70s. Just to confirm, this Barclaycard payout is from the early 1980s.

Most CMC’s can’t put two thoughts together either. You told them where you banked, they forwarded this on and will then invoice you. They don’t do anything you hadn’t already done in sending them the information. If you’d have sent your address history to the lenders instead of TCG, you’d be 24% better off.

calling them ‘consultants’ is almost as generous as the fees involved, blimey.

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • Thanks for confirming the 20% + VAT.
