Has your car cost you more or less than you expected over the year?
I have just added up all the cost my little diesel Corsa had over the years since new out of the factory 11 yrs ago.
From the beginning, I always knew I'm not one of those chasing new car every year, so the plan was always run it to the ground as cheap as possible, over the years, MOT passed 5 out of 9 time, the other 4 time, it failed on something the garage can get some money back for half price MOT (lol)

2014 headlamp aim, wiper, front anti roll bar linkage (national tyre - gone to council MOT next year onward)

I paid £16880 for 76620 mile =22p/mile, that's include car insurance, service , fuel, MOT, repair.
Should I add the cost of the car too? It cost £10k, with resell value of £2k right now, although no plan to sell.
Oh I forgot to add the £30 car tax per year (lol)
£25210/76620miles=33p0 -
Sorry, you didn't even change the oil once in 4.5yrs and 32k, and haven't serviced it in nearly 3yrs...?0

2020 my car cost much less than expected because of lockdown so 3 months on SORN helped a lot.0

Wiper emissions? What sort of wipers do you have that emit emissions?I can't talk about my new car as it just went on the road yesterday & signs are certainly not good.My last car i bought in 2008 when it was 7 years old. In the 12 years that passed2x thermostats (1 was needed immediately as i purchased it in 2008).1x ECU Maybe about 6-7 years ago. About £215 all in and i fitted it myself including messing with the ignition which was a PITA.1x radiator drain tap as i broke the other one.8 tyres in 12 years. Actually 12 but that was because i bought winter tyres and changed them when the time came.New caliper, perhaps 2 i can't remember. 6 new brake discs & 6 sets of pads.Bit of welding under the air box.WipersI change the oil every 6 months as a rule. I do 7000 miles per year.Other filters on their schedules. It's had 3 cambelts and water pumps in that time. Would've had a 4th round this year had i not replaced it.That's it.Beyond that i chose to get a stainless exhaust - now standard. I chose to get plasma dials that don't look like the crap on eBay. I chose to change out certain bulbs for LEDs as i prefer the lighting to normal bulbs. White for the record.Towards the end i couldn't really complain about insurance. £180 a year. Fuel wasn't great - 35-37mpg. Normal to many but i wanted more. Tax for what it was was shocking. £300 per year i think. For that price i'd want something of a performance car.0

I always thought depreciation was the biggest cost when owning a car but we recently sold our 2014 Smart convertible for just £250 less than we paid for it 2.5 years ago.
We bought from a local dealer and sold privately using Autotrader.
Car was in great condition, low milage, with full Smart service history and a new MOT.

Bought Skoda Octavia last year. Needed new wipers, bought Bosch £30. Mot'd in September £42, no advisories. Headlight bulb £4. Annual service in June £227.80. Booked in for Mot later in the month, fingers crossed. Not bad for a 9 & half year old car imo.0

£25210 was already include the £8k
So it is still 33p
I haven't added the breakdown cost as it is not in paper receipt, CBA going thro all the email.

A quick Google brought up a article, at 41p/m , not far with your 45p/m
How much does it cost per mile to run a car in the UK?The cost to drive a car is around 41p per mile, which we calculate by dividing average annual car running costs of £3,100 by average car mileage of 7,600 miles per year. Costs can vary depending on factors like the value of the car, the insurance rate and car fuel efficiency.1
