Problem with drooping internal coil in hotpoint freezer - help needed!

Hello everyone,
I have just finished defrosting the Hotpoint fridge freezer in the house we are currently moving out of. Everything seemed fine until I realised that the coil at the top of the freezer  (I am not sure what the technical term for this is - please see the picture attached below) has dropped down a bit - not by much, but enough to scrape against the top drawer, which now slides in only with some difficulty. I am not sure if I did something while defrosting to create this issue, but it could be pre-existing - my housemate says that a white bit of plastic recently came off connecting the two walls of the freezer - possibly keeping the coil in place?

I attach a picture - please see below! Unfortunately we are not currently in the house so I cannot take a picture of the plastic part that came off, but I could update this thread with more pictures a bit later. For the time being though, to anyone who knows anything about freezers - does it look like this is an easy fix, or a potentially more serious issue?

Any advice would be appreciated, and thank you very much in advance.

It looks like something should go between those two white round things either side and under the evaporator (technical term for the coil). Just put anything in there to hold it up.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

It may simply be that the coil has move slightly to the right (as viewed) and just needs to be lifted and pulled gently to the left.

I'd put some thick DIY washers, e.g. from polyethylene/polystyrene foam, on the round pieces on the sides to keep the evaporator distanced from the walls.

  • Thanks everyone for your advice - there was a white bit of plastic that needed to go between the two white bits and support the coil. We found it and screwed it back on, all good now.
