Bottom filling planter
Hello everyone,
I have dug up some of my lawn in order to lay a path.

I have dug up some of my lawn in order to lay a path.
My question is: can I break up the redundant sections to bottom half fill a large deep trough planter; and then top half fill with compost?
Or will my new plants die and I’m left with a planter of newly growing grass?
Thanks and best wishes.

If you are using turf in a flower or vegetable bed it needs to be upside down and deep down (called double digging). I have never used this in a planter, but would personally think it worth trying.

I'd also think so, but make sure it's upside down [brown side up

Thanks folks. I have already attacked it and broken it up. I didn’t think to put it in whole (let alone upside down). Will it still be ok in your opinion?0

Yes, but I would still take the time to put any recognisable bits upside down.

Pull out any dandelion roots before you put it in, they're easier to pull the wrong way from the underside of the garss IYSWIM, and take any bind weed roots out too if you have any, they're quite thick and white, easy to spot.
