Barclays VISA debit card - contactless not working?

To be able to use their contactless feature, you had to use the card with a CHIP & PIN transaction.
Does this have to be a purchase instore or could it just be activated by withdrawing cash from an ATM?
See, Idid the latter but when I tried a contactless transaction at self-checkout, payment was declined. Inserting the card into the reader and supplying the PIN didn't work either. Any ideas why this might be happening?
I assume it will have nothing to do with the fact that I withdrew the max cash from ATM of £300? Guessing this has nothing to do with the £45 contactless limit?

You can activate contactless by making any transaction with the card - if it is under £45 - put your card in the terminal (it will ask for your PIN) Then it should be ok - for the next transaction.
If you use the card in an ATM with the PIN this will work in same way as above.1 -

I can't imagine it'll have anything to do with me maxing out cash withdrawal, can it?0 -
Needs to be a purchase In a shop with the card using chip and pin to activate the contactless feature for the first time. The cash machine use wouldn’t count. If you haven’t done that before then that will be why.Wouldn’t have anything to do with the ATM withdrawal you made.0

The ATM withdrawal is chip & pin. So that should have activated contactless.Quoted "When you receive a new card, you’ll first need to use it with your PIN in a shop or at a cash machine to unlock contactless payments."1

Incorrect. See my last post above.mab3000 said:Needs to be a purchase In a shop with the card using chip and pin to activate the contactless feature for the first time. Decline can be due to many reason.
Given contactless failed & then chip & pin failed. My guess is there was a link issue between retailer & bank.
You do not even have to take cash out to reset the contactless counter. Simply doing a balance request is enough.
A card has 3 limits now. Cash, contactless & POS purchase limit.Life in the slow lane0 -
OP Go back to the ATM put card in - pin in - on the menu go to PIN services - normally you get 2 choices of either unlocking or choosing a new PIN. Choose unlock - should work now.0

If the card was declined even after putting the PIN number in then it could be for a number of different reasons, Problems with the merchants card payment facilities, fraud prevention block etc. The OP is better off contacting Barclays to find out why.
I suppose it is Possible a fraud block could have been put in place if the ATM withdrawal is unusual activity for the account, but more than likely it’s something else1 -
You can increase your withdrawal limit in the app. In addition you can check your spending controls in the app also. Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
