Does it make sense to buy gold as a COVID hedge?

There does seem to be disproportional negativity on this board towards gold, even suggesting that on a gold thread discussing gold is 'obsessive'!?.

Back in March I floated the idea that the gold/silver ratio was above 120 and that people should buy silver; again a lot of negative posts and stupid comments. Well guess what? Anyone who took my advice and bought silver back in March could have doubled their money in under 6 months; I did.

It seems that certain posters including some veterans can't abide gold, don't want to discuss it, or hear anything about it. Maybe they are just jealous they don't own any themselves or maybe deep down they know the reasons why they should have some gold but aren't proactive enough to do anything about it and so have to attack anyone who has been.
