Does using and obviously paying in full a credit card really boost your score ?

Options
Mine is fair at the moment so I applied for a Marble card and they’ve given me a £600 limit which I think I read is good because over £500 is a good sign of being trusted.  I spend about £600 a month on food shopping so should I put everything on there and pay it off in full to boost my score in time to apply for a mortgage in 6 months time ?  Thank you

The score is irrelevant. Like hundreds of other people who post on this forum, stop obsessing over it.

Don’t do anything to boost your score.
  • Your 'score' IS irrelevant as pointed out BUT an actual helpful answer to your question is, yes put all your normal expenditure on the card and set up a DD to pay it off IN FULL and it certainly won't do your credit history any harm and 'may' influence a mortgage lender to view you more favourably although I say 'may' as the criteria for lending via a mortgage are much more stringent than just using a CC wisely, your affordability is the big one here.

Be very careful you don't go over your card limit as expenditure of £600 a month with a card limit of £600 is potentially a fine balancing act.

I can easily afford the mortgage and have a 20% deposit but I have two settled defaults from 2 years ago.  Even though I got a Santander mortgage which I’ve transferred to a permission to let mortgage and that’s been paid for two years I’m still nervous as the mortgage is a high ratio to earnings.  Just want to get the best fixed rate possible
  • Good you can afford the mortgage, I assume you went through a broker to get a mortgage with 2 settled defaults, if yes then using broker again you should be okay although one can never be certain with mortgages and of course the Wuflu malarkey isn't helping either but hey ho.
